Getting Involved with Sparrow’s Nest

At Sparrow’s Nest Place of Safety, we believe that everyone can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. Whether you want to volunteer your time or provide much-needed donations, there are many ways to support our mission. Here’s how you can get involved:

Volunteering

People can offer their time to help care for the babies and children or assist with household tasks. People are welcome to contact any of the house mommies.

Donations

Contributions of funds, baby supplies, clothes, food, or medical supplies are invaluable.

Fundraising

Organizing fundraising events or campaigns to support the medical expenses fund and other needs for the children.

Awareness

Helping raise awareness about the challenges and needs faced by places of safety can lead to more community support.

Volunteer with Us

Volunteering at Sparrow’s Nest is a meaningful way to contribute to the care and well-being of the infants we serve. However, due to the sensitive nature of our work, we have specific criteria and guidelines for our volunteers.

Volunteer Requirements:

Valid Police Clearance

Ensures the safety of our children by verifying your criminal history.
Form 30

A mandatory application submitted to the Department of Social Development, confirming that your name does not appear on the National Child Protection Register.

These documents are required by law for anyone working with children under government care and are essential for volunteers entering our founders’ homes.

How You Can Help

While direct care of the infants can be challenging due to nature of attachment to their caretakers, there are many other ways you can assist:

Household Assistance

Help with cleaning or other household chores.

Errands

Assist with transporting items between our three different homes.

Meal Preparation

Help prepare meals specifically for the infants.

Your support in these areas is invaluable and allows our caretakers to focus more on the educational, emotional and physical needs of the children.
